About Me
I believe that people are whole beings who can be understood through various dimensions-- biologically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually--with each aspect of our personhood influencing other aspects. Consequently, I seek to bring therapeutic understanding and interventions that address the whole person, with the aim of seeing that person grow further into the fullness of who he or she was created to be. At our core, I believe we are relational beings, who find our greatest fulfillment in meaningful connection with others. If relationship lies at the center of our greatest fulfillment, then it is also within the context of relationship that we tend to experience our greatest hurt and frustration. Our healing must occur at the site of our injuries, and it is this truth that makes the relationships formed within counseling a potent means of healing and growth.
I love variety in life, and I am fortunate to work in a field that allows me to teach, counsel, assess and advise in a variety of contexts. I am a full-time professor at Columbia International University where I am preparing the next generation of counselors who have a heart to impact God’s Kingdom through the profession of counseling. I also provide pre-employment assessment services to local public safety agencies, helping them select mature and effective public servants. My wife is also an educator, who left over 20 years as a nurse to pursue her life-long desire to teach children. We have grown through more than 20 years of marriage, and we are excited to see our two boys enter manhood. My pastimes include gardening, carpentry, and any other excuse to be out in my garage or in nature.
